Ok, so when DâBanj stated vehemently that he was ready to eat from the âBig Appleâ he wasnât simply twaddling. DâBanj has transcended from being âOne of the Biggest Artistes in Africaâ (which has been the label for handful of musicians in the Nigerian music industry in recent times) to rubbing shoulders with the crème de la crème of the American music industry.
The most fascinating aspect of DâBanjâs recent feat is how he seems to blend in effortlessly among the pack of his newly found American friends.
Hereâs DâBanj wasn't looking a speck out of place at the Kanye West Paris Fashion week show amidst personalities like Sean âDiddyâ Combs, Cassie, Kim Kardashian, Common, Shala Monroque, Alicia Keys, Swizz Beatz, the G.O.O.D music crew and others.

[color=orange]Choc city CEO in an interview with The Nigerian Entertainment today, opened up saying âweâve been looking for someone like her for years but didnât find till nowâ. Maikori says he got to know about Pryse through M.I who had told him about her for a while. âHer art is overwhelming and we are satisfied with her lyrics and deliveryâ, Audu added.
Pryse is a UK based Nigerian rapper who is all set to storm the naija music industry. Born in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, as Princess Esindu, she started writing raps at the tender age of ten with her older brother (now popular producer, Big H). She was encouraged down the path of music by her family, who owned and ran a recording studio in Port Harcourt. Pryse spent most of her teenage years listening to Jay Z, writing rhymes and recording songs. Her influences include Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and more recently, M.I.
With an increase in female voices in the music industry one wonders who the next lucky female artiste to land a record deal would be.

This year's Grammy Awards, the 54th edition of the show, is set to showcase several of the world's most recognizable stars, and reward those who have made their mark in music across the world, from the U.S, Asia & Europe, through to Africa. However, when the show goes down on Sunday February 12, one nominee who will not be gracing the hugely anticipated event is Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Femi Kuti.
[color=orange]Kutiâs sister Yeni tells us via SMS that Femi, whoâs nominated in the Best World Music Category, is not shunning the awards as is being reported, but that the afrobeat giant would not be attending the awards because âhe would be too disappointed if he goes and he doesnât winâ.
Femiâs nomination is for his album âAfrica for Africaâ, released under the Knitting Factory Records imprint.
[color=orange]Despite Femiâs opinion, though, Yeni, who was a dancer in Femiâs positive Force band, before stepping down to manage the New Afrikan Shrine on a day-to-day, says she hopes he wins. She told our reporter, this evening, that the duo of Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo Adeneye of Kennis Music, who will be attending the event, have kindly agreed to accept the award on his behalf, should the Afrobeat singer win.
Femi Kuti, son of late Afro Beat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, received his first Grammy nomination in 2003 under the best world music album category, with his âFight to Winâ album. He lost out to Panamanian Ruben Blades. He also recorded another nomination in 2010 but US banjo player Bela Fleck eventually walked away with the award.
[color=orange]His recent nomination sees him up against Latin/Roots music band AfroCubism, South African male choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and Malian band Tinariwen.
This year, the total number of categories for the Grammys was cut from 109 to 78 after a major overhaul last year.
