Music is of the essence, food for the soul, and a vital component of the being, Numba.
He recorded the song, âSAY MY NAMEâ with ace producer OJB jezreel , a.k.a Curtis Feels, who also is the background voice in the hook. It is a song that is an instant hit with most first time listeners, either on the internet, on radio, and at his performances.
Numba was born and raised in Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria. He had a fun middle class upbringing and attended Primary school at Santa Maria Private School, off Adeniran Ogunsanya, Surulere, then moved to the Central Bank of Nigeria Staff School, Sattelite town. Had his Secondary school education at the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Abeokuta in Ogun State. He obtained a first degree in English from the prestigious Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
Numba is a prolific rapper, who sings and dances as well. The name NUMBA is representative of just about everything he loves; Dance, Fashion, Cars, and of course, Music.
His romance with music started long before he could talk. Exposed to the vast music collection of his parents, young Numba showed dexterity in dance and moving to music in a manner beyond his years as a tot. Growing up, the Legendary Michael Jackson was and probably still is his biggest music influence, certainly his earliest. Other soul singers like Lionel Richie, The Whispers, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Donna Summer, The Temptations and Shalama, were also an influence. Most indigenous music of the seventies and eighties popular in the country also contributed to his wide range music savvy.
The early eighties saw Rap music get the attention of the Lagos music crowd, and The Sugar Hill Gangâs âRapperâs delight âhad it going on. Grandmaster Flashâs âThe Messageâ was different, and Public Enemy, Eric B and Rakim, and EPMD introduced him to a much more conscious and hardcore angle to Rap music. Down the line, Treach of Naughty by Nature, the Notorious B.I.G, Tupac and, Nas remain his biggest influences in Rap music.
Chasing a dream is never easy, and Numba found this out submitting to two hourly, thrice weekly rehearsals and training in performance that lasted a full year under his former management, Different Aesthetics, an all round art company located at the NCAC, National Arts Theatre. It paid off as he performed, backed by a live band on a major telecommunications (Zain) rebranding tour of seven North Central Campuses along with acts like Terry da Rapman, Eedis Abdulkareem, Pherowshuz and Konga .
He has worked with producers like Mr. Daz and Soso . The album project is painstakingly being worked on in-between his performances to give present and would be fans a masterpiece which years of listening to various genres of music bring to bear.
